"Life is a place of service, and in that service one has to suffer a great deal that is hard to bear, but more often to experience a great deal of joy. But that joy can be real only if people look upon their life as a service, and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness."

-Leo Tolstoy

I try to live my life according to how my actions affect others. I strive to have a positive impact by imparting knowledge or offering my time and energy through service.

In the fall of 2017, I was recognized for my service to LSU and the community by LSU Campus Life, a unit within the Office of the Dean of students. I am one of 10 female undergraduate and graduate students to receive this award "for outstanding service to the University community through participation and leadership in community service activities while attending LSU."

LSU Alumni Association - D.C. Chapter

From October 2020 to November 2021, I was elected to serve as the Secretary of the LSU Alumni Association - D.C. Chapter.

  • I organized chapter-wide events including a Thanksgiving social as well as a crawfish boil with over 200 attendees.

  • I drafted and distributed weekly communication to the chapter.

  • I managed the chapter’s social media accounts.

  • I built a website to inform current and prospective chapter members.

St. Patrick School Basketball

In the spring of 2018, I volunteered as a coach for the St. Patrick School fifth-grade girls' basketball team.

  • I instructed practices, including fundamental basketball drills and conditioning exercises.

  • I developed plays and implemented game strategies.

  • I coordinated with the parents of the girls I coached and the St. Patrick School athletic director.

Geaux BIG Baton Rouge

Geaux BIG Baton Rouge brings LSU students and members of the surrounding community together for a one-day service experience. Over my four years with Geaux BIG,

  • I participated as a volunteer in the spring of 2014.

  • I led a team of volunteers from my sorority in 2015.

  • I served as a regional coordinator in 2016 and 2017. As a regional coordinator, I inspected and evaluated potential service sites. I determined the logistical details for each approved site within my region and relayed that information to the Geaux BIG board. On the day of service, I corresponded with the team leaders and site hosts to ensure the safety and productivity of the volunteers.

Community Bound

In the fall of 2013, I joined my Honors College peers in a day of service at a local elementary school. In preparation for the school year,

  • I cleaned the recently constructed facilities.

  • I shelved new addition to the children's library.

  • I reconfigured new classroom spaces.

Refugee Outreach

In 2012 and 2013, I taught English as a second language to adult Burmese refugees through my church's refugee outreach program.

  • I developed lesson plans and instructed the class each Sunday for one hour.

  • I focused on vocabulary relevant to their daily lives in the United States including how to apply for jobs, complete paperwork for their children's schooling, find transportation and purchase necessities.
