If resources and time allowed it, I would be a university student for the rest of my days. I enjoy the academic atmosphere and constant exchange of new and innovative ideas.
As a Master of Arts in International Relations (MAIR) student and Public Service Fellow at Johns Hopkins SAIS, I specialize in security, strategy and statecraft as well as the Middle East.

I've included examples of my writing and research below including my undergraduate honors thesis, an analytical profile on Ansar al-Sharia and an excerpt from my research on the Arab League. If you're interested in seeing more examples of my work, please contact me.
To see the breadth of my studies, please see a listing of courses I took while at Johns Hopkins SAIS and LSU. I've also included honors and awards I received. I've listed six features in which my work has been highlighted.
Undergraduate Honors Thesis
As an Ogden Honors College student, I successfully defended a thesis in which I ranked Middle Eastern countries according to their soft power. I took a magnifying glass to a region largely underrepresented on global rankings of soft power. Any mention of the Middle East in conversations of soft power is rare. There is no other soft power ranking that looks exclusively at the Middle East or includes all the states of the region.
In my soft power ranking of the Middle East, I considered over 50 metrics divided into six sub-indexes of soft power: culture, government, education, enterprise, engagement and digital. My research reveals that Israel holds the most soft power in the region. Israel ranks first in three of the six sub-indexes: education, government and enterprise. The United Arab Emirates follows Israel in the overall ranking but ranks first in the digital sub-index. Turkey, at the number three overall spot, leads the region in culture and engagement. Turkey is often identified as the token Middle Eastern country with a high level of soft power. As my ranking and further analysis of Turkey’s soft power shows, Turkey is no longer the soft power heavyweight in the Middle East. In fact, it appears Turkey's soft power is quickly dissipating due to President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan’s consolidation of power, the declining economy, the dramatic drop in tourism due to increased unrest and security threats, the failed military coup attempt, the dramatic government clampdown and the collapse in infrastructure due to a flood of refugees.
Excerpt from an analytical profile on Ansar al-Sharia
In the fall of 2015, I completed an analytical profile on the terrorist group called Ansar al-Sharia in Libya (ASL) as a part of a Comparative Politics of the Middle East course. I've included an excerpt from my profile on ASL below which describes the origin of ASL, its actions and belief systems.
Excerpt from my research on the Arab League
As a part of a political science course on international organization in the spring of 2015, I conducted research on the Arab League. Below you can find an excerpt from my research paper in which I describe international organizations' use of socialization, the perception of the Arab League, issues within the League, the League's record of action and the future of the Arab League.
